A WORKINGTON couple who dedicate their lives to helping others in the community were invited to Number 10 Downing St this week, in recognition of all they do for people in Workington.
Tony and Lesley Jackson help the community through their work in the town’s Royal British Legion, as well as separately through their jobs as Morrisons Community Champion for Lesley and British Red Cross worker Tony.
Mr Jenkinson said: “I was asked to nominate a community champion to attend number 10, there was a very long list of constituents I would say who deserve that invite.
“I ended up choosing Tony and Lesley who, as many will know, have got decades between them of service to the community, youth work, they have organised Armed Forces Day for the last 14 years, they are heavily involved in the poppy appeal.”
The couple were given a tour of Parliament by Mr Jenkinson and attended a ceremony with Minister for Civil Society Stuart Andrew MP, to recognise people in the charitable sector.
Talking about the visit, Lesley said: “Tony and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, Mark took us round the Houses of Parliament and we found out lots of things we didn’t know about.
“It was a lovely experience, it was nice to be honoured for what we do for our charities and community.”
