A WEST Cumbrian couple are celebrating their ruby wedding anniversary with a voyage to remember.
The ruby wedding anniversary marks 40 years of marriage and is a significant milestone in a marriage.
Andrea and Richard Cornish married back in 1983 in Whitehaven after meeting five years earlier.
They have since spent the past four decades together and have had two children.
Andrea Johnston, as she was called then, met Richard Cornish in 1978 at a church youth club at Hensingham, Whitehaven, in their last year at school.
Mrs Johnston said: "Richard went on to train as a butcher whilst I studied at Carlisle Art College for four years in design.
"We married at St James' Church Whitehaven in 1983."
The couple both went on to have successful careers in retail management at Dorothy Perkins and Samuels, then after being hit by redundancy during the Covid pandemic they became semi-retired whilst working at the hospital.
"We are very proud of our two sons who had careers in the army in the Grenadier Guards taking part in many activities including trouping of the colour, but who are now both settled with their partners working locally," Mrs Johnston went on.
To celebrate their anniversary they have been on a trip of a lifetime doing what they love - travelling.
The epic tour featured a cruise from Miami through the Panama Canal and visiting South America, and then up to Canada to whale watch and then four nights in Seattle before heading home.
The tour began with the 45th anniversary of their meeting - and ended with the 40th anniversary of their marriage and as they said was certainly a trip to remember.
