A MUCH loved and now rather famous lizard has returned home after going missing for almost two weeks... with her delighted owners saying she is now 'banned in' for the forseeable.

Many people in the local area have for the past two weeks joined in the hunt for Echo the tegu, who has been missing from her home in Moorclose since Sunday, June 4.

Since her escape, which is thought to have seen Echo tunnel herself out of her garden, the tegu has became a hit on social media, even making an appearance on ITV's Good Morning Britian.

Police officers and West Cumbrian search and rescue teams were among the many who joined in the hunt for the missing tegu, who is now regarded as somewhat of a hide and seek champion in the area.

Echo belongs to Pet Encounter Cumbria, with owner Siobhan Harkness praying for her safe return and appealing to residents around Workington since her escape from her home.

Siobhan said: "It’s hard to find the right words! Were overwhelmed, relieved and so so happy.

"Also so thankful to everyone who has been out there searching for her and contacting us with their support.

"We are just so happy to have her back with us! She will be going the vets for a check up but she looks to be in really good health."

Siobhan took to social media to thank the many people who have been out to help in the search for Echo.

In a statement Pet Encounter Cumbria said: "Echo is home. Thank you to the everyone who has been out looking for her, all hours of the day. We really appreciate your help and support.

"PS: She is banned in."

Tegus are omniverous, and in the wild feed on fruit, insects, frogs, small rodents, birds, eggs and carrion. They can grow up to a metre in length.
