A record number of Cockermouth students has received grants to help with their sports training and development.
Thirty-one pupils have benefitted from the Derek Thompson Trust Fund this year.
It was set up in 1981 in honour of the Cockermouth Grammar School sports teacher. Each year, pupils can apply for a grant.
The fund has distributed more than £25,000 to date. Previous recipients were English cricket captain Ben Stokes and top swimmers Luke and Sam Greenbank.
Secretary Jack Abernethy said: "It's been going for so long. This year in particular we had a record number of people applying - and gave out £1,925.
"It's great to be able to support so many kids continuing with their sporting interests."
The grants were presented at Cockermouth School by Chris Woolhouse, chairman of Cockermouth Round Table, which has supported the fund over the years.
He also presented one of last year's recipients with the Derek Thompson Merit Cup.
The fund trustees chose to give it to Callum Harrington, from Little Broughton, an athlete and member of Border Harriers who specialises with the javelin.
"He had an outstanding 2022, winning 24 gold medals. He is ranked 1st in the North West and 6th in the UK," said Mr Abernethy.
