Workington’s third friendly of the pre-season programme, scheduled for tomorrow at Borough Park, has been postponed.
The League Two side Morecambe – relegated at the end of last season – have informed the Reds that they haven’t enough players to send to west Cumbria.
In a statement Morecambe FC said: "Due to having a number of players with minor knocks/injuries we have had to take the difficult decision to cancel the match in order not to aggravate the injuries further and cause damage to the squad ahead of the new league season."
It was going to be the middle leg of three attractive home friendlies for Danny Grainger’s men – between Dumbarton, which they lost 4-0 on Saturday, and the visit of Carlisle United this coming Saturday.
However, there has been a suggestion that the game could be re-arranged for a later date.
Consequently Reds have released advice to fans: “We’d advise everyone that has bought advance tickets to just wait for now as any tickets bought will be valid if the game goes ahead.
"If it does not take place refunds will be issued by the club.”
Reds boss Grainger had hoped to have a new player registered on loan for tonight, so he’s a little more time to complete the deal before facing Carlisle on Saturday.
