The rain came down, the brollies went up but the show went on - and was as entertaining as ever.

Broughton Carnival is always popular - regardless of what the weather throws at it. This year was no exception.

Hundreds of people packed on to the streets to watch the colourful procession meander its way through the villages.

Glencorse Pipe Band and Mossley Band took part in the carnival fun.

Secretary Anne Davis said: "It was a really good carnival. There were two bands and various Queens, some visiting queens and several entertainment groups.

"It rained on and off but the atmosphere is always great. Lots of people came out to watch and everyone was smiling at the end."

The procession started in the School Field and ended on the Welfare Field, with the crowning held in the village hall.

There is no judging, apart from Entertainment on Route.

This year's winner was Elvis and his Browton Jailbirds, from Brewery House. Also getting lots of laughs were a team from The Sun Dial and some other community groups.

The annual event is run by a hard-working committee of seven. Chairman John Dobie has been involved for 45 years and Anne for 26.

"We've got a good team with many long standing members so we know what we're doing," said Anne.

"I'd like to thank everyone that helped, from putting the bunting up, and the stage, to helping with teas and sorting the road closure.

"And thank you to everyone for turning out. There would be no carnival without the community support."
