Organiser Andrew Marshall said: "It was absolutely fantastic, despite the weather.

"At the moment we have just over £8k but I'm confident we will smash last year's total.

"Everyone got involved. We had 92 businesses or clubs raising money for 40 different charities, it was fantastic."

He was delighted that clubs had got involved. Croft House Bowling Club had bowls and a bingo night, raising £260 for West Cumbria Hospice at Home.

"What an amazing supportive community we have."
