Emily was presented with a mounted print of her winning photograph at a ceremony at the Kirkgate Centre. A second copy will be displayed in the Egremont Room at the Kirkgate Centre.

Trust chairman Phil Campbell said: "The aim of this annual competition for Year 6 primary school pupils is to encourage primary young people to take an active interest in our local built and natural environment and take a pride in the place where they live.

"Each year a subject is chosen to reflect this. This year’s theme was 'Nature in the local area'."

The competition was judged by member Brian Coley.

"Emily’s picture truly captures the theme with the bee and foxglove in sharp focus," he said.

"The background elements are out of focus so the eye is drawn to the subjects. It is well exposed and the contrasting colours of purple and green give the picture lots of impact."

The prize is funded by Peter Colley’s wife, Barbara. in memory of his enthusiasm for the local environment and the wellbeing of the people of Cockermouth.
