MARYPORT Taste of the Sea comedy night returns next Friday.
The event launches Maryport Taste of the Sea, the food and drink festival, run in partnership with Maryport Town Council, which will be back in the heart of the town on Saturday and Sunday.
MC for the evening is Dave Twentyman, described as ‘brilliant’ by TV comic John Bishop. His style is upbeat, cheery and warm, and this seasoned northern comedian can endear himself to even the rowdiest of crowds.
He is joined by three other comedians from the UK and international comedy circuit.
Andy White mixes daft voices with observational and topical humour and shifts his act from deadpan to loud and physical in a moment.
Chris Washington also packs on the northern charm. He has been nominated as best newcomer at the Edinburgh Fringe and has been nicknamed ‘Peter Kay for the smartphone generation’ after appearing alongside the likes of Jason Manford.
The fourth comic on stage will be Andy Askins, praised as ‘totally hilarious’ by fellow funnyman Ross Noble.
Armed with a guitar and a cheeky grin, he is bringing his musical talents to Maryport but guests are warned not to be distracted by his impish demeanour – he has dark killer lines amid his remakes of popular songs.
While the food festival is definitely a family affair, organisers warn that the comedy night is an adults-only evening out.
Tickets for the evening, at the Mealnot Road rugby club on Friday August 11 are £20 and are available on visitallerdale.co.uk/things-to-do/taste-cumbriamaryport/ to book.
