Twelve people applied for six vacant seats on Maryport Town Council - more than contested the last local government elections.
On Monday, following interviews with the candidates, the town council voted for those who would join the council.
Former councillor and deputy mayor Gary Hampson will represent the Ellenborough ward along with Daniel Petterson, who has a background in petroleum engineering.
Gary runs the town's trawler race and is also a member of Maryport Rescue, a voluntary sea and flood rescue group.
Retired maths and IT teacher Phillip Netherington will represent Brooklands while Brandon Copeland becomes the councillor for Ellenfoot.
Brandon, 25, is another returning councillor.
Flimby will be represented by Valerie Cuthbert, who said living in the village gives her an insight into local issues.
