A GROUP of fire cadets from Workington picked up prizes in a national competition
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service Cadets from Workington have been competing in the National Fire Cadet Games 2023 in Liverpool last weekend.
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service hosted the National Fire Cadets Games on August, 11-13 at the Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool.
The games aim to build self-confidence, leadership and teamwork skills as well as a sense of friendship and belonging amongst young people.
The activities that make up the games reflect what the young people do within their fire cadet unit and will involve elements of firefighter activity as well as other inclusive activities.
The fire cadets from Workington were up against teams from across the UK, picking up first prize for the water rescue challenge at the event and claiming second prize in the overall competition.
The cadets trained very hard for the competition and were extremely pleased with the result.
A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: "Congratulations to our Cadets, who came first in the Water Rescue challenge and second overall.
"Well done, outstanding effort."
The fire cadets will attend a celebration event at Workington Community Fire Station next week which will be attended by CFRS Deputy Chief Fire Officer Brian Steadman.
