There were lots of miles, laughs and only one puncture when the Browton 7+ team got together for their annual fundraising bike ride.

The enthusiastic gang set off from The Sun Dial before heading through Cockermouth, then Uldale, before climbing out along to Caldbeck and Hesket Newmarket and spending the night in Penrith.

This is the 34th year raising money for the older residents' outing and carrying on a tradition started by the late Malcom Martin.

The group was delighted to raise more than £1,500. Donations can be left at The Sun Dial or village shop.

Eleven riders completed day one, which saw Chris Lawrence complete his first Browton 7+ bike ride on a tandem.

"He had planned to do it with original member Peter Gorley but due to other commitments was unable to make it so his son, also called Peter, volunteered to cycle on the tandem with Chris. They did very well," said Stephen Tyson, who has been part of the team for more than 10 years.

Original members Mitch Gorley and John Wilson joined the riders on the first day.

On the second day the cyclists headed to Greystoke and Threlkeld, then along the cycle path to Keswick before returning to The Brewery House in Broughton for refreshments and food supplied by landlady Hallie Shaw.

The crew were supported by Raymond Dobie.

"There was lots of laughter along the way and only one puncture," said Stephen.

"Given the temperature everyone did well completing the ride and we only got a little wet on the Sunday when passing through Keswick.

"The trip was very enjoyable and talk even turned to planning for next year's outing!"

He thanked everyone for their support.
