Now that Halloween is approaching what better way could you spend your evenings than to enjoy a horror film?

With the leaves turning brown and the skies going grey it really does feel a little more scary than normal.

And what difference is it from any other October, the scariest month of the year?

With children enjoying trick or treating and many people attending Halloween-themed parties there is only one thing that could possibly add to the fun, horror movies.

Horrors are a simply fantastic genre of film at this time of year and just help to make things that little bit more spooky.

For many years now people have turned to horror and thrillers in the autumn months and there have been some truly fantastic movies made over the years.

Here at the News & Star, we've picked some of our favourites that we hope you will enjoy.

Scream

The 1996 horror flick Scream was truly revolutionary for its time incorporating a 'whodunnit' theme to the classic slasher genre.

The film has many twists and turns and is a truly exhilarating watch with an unbelievable finale.

The film has spawned a number of successful sequels, with two new films released over the past few years.

Psycho

Released in 1960, this film may seem old to many viewers but it definitely still stands the test of time.

Directed by cinema legend Alfred Hitchcock the film sees Marion Crane, played by Janet Leigh, face her untimely demise at the terrifying Bates' Motel which is owned by the 'psycho' himself, Norman Bates.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

This 1974 horror classic follows a group of teens as they fall, victim, to an evil family in rural Texas.

Most famously the film features horror legend Leatherface as the main antagonist as he wreaks terror.

It would go on to become one of the most celebrated horror movies of all time with many sequels and remakes still being made to this day.

Friday the 13th

A Friday the 13th fell in October this year we definitely couldn't miss this one off the list.

The original 1980 film sees a group of youths having the time of their lives at the fictional Camp Crystal Lake before an evil villain begins their reign of terror picking them off one by one.

Halloween

How could we forget the most iconic of them all, Halloween? Released in 1979 the movie follows the monstrous killer Michael Myers who escapes from prison to come back to his home town of Haddonfield, Illinois to continue his wave of devastation.
