REPORTS of a struggling individual in the River Ellen in Maryport prompted a swift rescue operation involving multiple agencies.
The incident was detected on October 28 by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Belfast Coastguard, after reports of a person in the water and in need of assistance in the River Ellen.
Local units and medical professionals quickly arrived at the scene. Their rapid response ensured the individual was promptly 'accessed, stabilised and extricated' for further care.
The person was then placed on a rescue sled and moved down river to a suitable extraction point to be recovered up the river bank and handed over for onwards transport and treatment.
Highlighting effective multi-agency partnerships, units from the Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team, Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team, Maryport Rescue, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, Cumbria Police, the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust and the Great North Air Ambulance Service were all present.
Responders are pleased with their combined efforts and send wishes of a speedy recovery to the rescued individual.
