Officers in Keswick were patrolling the A66 when they stopped what they believed was a stolen vehicle.
Upon investigation, the vehicle had not been stolen but the driver was dealt with for failing to stop.
A spokesperson said: "Keswick Community Team was patrolling the A66 outside of Keswick when a vehicle that had been reported stolen from out of the area was seen and failed to stop for officers.
"Our colleagues from the firearms support unit located and stopped the vehicle a short time later.
"It was later established that the vehicle had not been stolen but the driver was dealt with for failing to stop for the Police."
