TWO Remembrance Day services will be held in Maryport this Sunday.
The first is at 10am at St Nicholas Church in Flimby.
The second is the main Maryport parade which starts in Fleming Square at 2.45pm.
The pristine condition of Fleming Square this year is thanks to property services company the Bell Group.
The company noticed last year that the Remembrance procession was starting from the square which was badly in need of a clean-up – and staff made sure that happened in time fr this year’s event.
Those wanting to parade will march from Fleming Square down Wood Street to St Mary’s Church on Netherhall corner.
A service there will be followed by the laying of wreaths at the Memorial Gardens.
After that they will process down the Cockermouth Road and proceed via the A594 to the Saluting Base, then to the Maryport Rugby Club, Mealpot Road, to be dismissed.
Maryport Town Council, which organises the Remembrance Day events paid tribute this week to former councillor Carol Tindall who has retired from council and from organising the poppy distribution which she did for several years.
Maryport’s children will have their own service at St Mary’s on Friday.
