The couple who turned a village pub into "a thriving community asset" have been awarded for their efforts.
The Greyhound at Bothel has been named CAMRA's (the Campaign for Real Ale) Pub of the Season.
Landlords Rachel Scott and Andrew Wood left jobs with the police to take over the pub in February this year.
Len Wainwright, of CAMRA, said: "We have given them this award in recognition of their success in both promoting good quality beer from local Cumbrian breweries and also making the Greyhound a thriving community asset.
"Andrew had lived in the village for some time but both he and Rachel had no previous experience in running a pub.
"This did not stop them from making positive changes to the pub , talking to local breweries and bringing in their beers, brightening up the décor and liaising with local helping each other out with things such as lending cutlery and crockery for functions."
Groups such as the Gardening Club and the Village Council have met at the pub as well as quiz and music nights, said Len."However the couple have now decided to return to their old jobs in the Atomic Energy police at Sellafield but not before they found another couple who live in the village to take it over."
