WORKINGTON Town fan Joshua Harkness was delighted to win match tickets and the team’s new shirt when he took part in a giant treasure hunt during the Christmas festival on Saturday.
Joshua and mum, Sarah Carter, were among the many Town fans trying to track down four people wearing the new Fibrus Broadband branded top using clues on social media.
At first they were disappointed in TK Maxx when Maryport schoolgirl Amelia Gibson spotted staff member Ria Copperwaite wearing the shirt in the store.
But then minutes later they spotted local charity fundraiser and Town superfan John Hastings wearing the top while sitting in the window of Costa Coffee.
Sarah said: “Joshua had been so determined to win a new shirt that he had written the winning phrase on his arm.
“We love supporting Town and we’re really looking forward to the new season. With the support Fibrus are giving the club and some new players it should be a good one.”
The ‘Spot the Top’ competition was organised by Fibrus Broadband to celebrate their growing partnership with Workington Town Rugby League Club.
Allison Smith and Gary Nicol took the top prize - a shirt and a season ticket - after being the first to notice Workington Mayor Beth Dixon’s sporty attire.
And Kyla Briscoe was another winner after being the first to sport Elias Paphitis wearing the new shirt in Superfish.
The new Town shirts were revealed last week, with Fibrus as the official shirt sponsor for the next two seasons. The sponsorship further builds on Fibrus’ involvement in the club, having already invested in the ground, now known as the Fibrus Community Stadium, and sponsoring the new ladies’ team.
Catriona Henry, Senior Sponsorship Specialist at Fibrus, said: “We are excited to be the main shirt sponsor for Workington Town Rugby League Club, and we wanted to do something fun to share this with the local community and celebrate with some great prizes.
“Workington Town Rugby League Club is about more than rugby, it is about bringing fans, friends and families together and unifying communities. We too have a key role to play in the community here while we roll out our network to more than 5,000 homes in the town, and this partnership further marks our commitment to the local people in Workington.”
Graeme Peers, Director and Commercial Partnerships Manager at Workington Town RLFC said: “It's been great to work alongside Fibrus to create a fun competition for the people of Workington and add even more excitement to the Town's Christmas light switch-on with the ‘Spot the Top’ competition.
“We didn’t doubt that fans would be hot on the trail of the new shirts as soon as the challenge was revealed, and now four of them have extra special early Christmas presents.
“The shirts mark a new era for the club moving forward with the support of Fibrus Broadband, and I’m sure they will become firm favourites.”
Alongside its support for Workington Town Rugby League Club, Fibrus also provides grants to Cumbrian grassroots sports clubs through the Fibrus Play it Forward Fund while also sponsoring the first Cumbrian cricket league for girls. Fibrus has also invested £60,000 this year to tackle digital poverty across Cumbria through the Fibrus Community Fund.
