A WORKINGTON pub has appealed for the publics support, after a ‘very tough’ 10 days in which a food hygiene inspection found them with a one-star rating just weeks before the busy festive period.
The Royal George on Cross Hill in Workington said the past 10 days have been ‘very difficult’, since the FSA release a one-star food hygiene rating score, despite a challenge from the pub owners.
The pub has said they have since been revisited by the council, with a new rating of ‘good’ being given to them.
Owner of the Royal George, Mike Rollo said: “The past 10 days have been very tough for the pub and the staff, and we appreciate all the customers that have continued their support.
“As released across social media last week that we had a poor score it was disappointing to hear as we had asked to challenge the report. Since the FSA published the score, we have been in dialogue with the council regarding our challenge.
“As a quick resolution and working with council officers due to it being the festive period, this has resulted in us paying for a revisit inspection and we have a verbal understanding that we have a GOOD rating. This will take a couple of weeks to appear on the FSA website.”
Mr Rollo has appealed for the publics support for local businesses over the festive period and thanked the Royal George’s loyal customers for their continued support.
He said: “For us, this has been another challenge in our four years at The Royal George, but we have some very loyal customers.
“We need to keep pubs like this going and we look forward to seeing you over Christmas.
“I have spoken to a few businesses, and they have said the first few weeks of December have been awful, this is about support your local businesses over this festive period, because a lot of us require our trade to get through the quieter months of January and February.”
Cumberland council confirmed they had revisited the premises following a request by the business, with the officer finding that the food hygiene rating score had been since deemed as ‘Good’ or four stars.
