Stephen Keogh of Country Flavour has been crowned Cumberland Markets Trader of the Year for 2023.

Joined by parents Chris and Jo Keogh, the Keoghs have been nurturing the family business to success and glory for well over 75 years.

Historic roots of the enterprise trace back to the Herb Farm near Carlisle, established by Stephen's grandparents, Harry and Rosemary.

Since 1978, however, business has thrived in Kirkby Stephen.

The family's relentless passion for their trade has seen them contribute considerably to the development of Cumberland's Markets, earning them official recognition.

Cumberland Council’s executive member for adults and community health, Councillor Markus Campbell-Savours, said: "I’m pleased to be able to present this award to Stephen, on behalf of Cumberland Council.

"Stephen has been a dedicated stall holder for numerous years and has played a pivotal role in fostering the ongoing success of our markets."

He praised the efforts of local traders and their contributions to Cumberland's communities.

The Keswick Market attributed its high levels of success to the volume of visitors it attracts, making it a prominent platform for businesses like Country Flavour.

Expressing his gratitude, Stephen Keogh said: "It is a very big honour to be recognised in this way and it was very much a surprise!

"Our business relies heavily on the phenomenal number of visitors that come to Keswick, which makes the Keswick Market so successful."

Phil Byers, the market manager, applauded Country Flavour's achievement, expressing that "Country Flavour is a very worthy winner of this year's award.

"Their handmade produce is a credit to Keswick Market and is always popular with locals and visitors."

The Keogh family's unwavering commitment to producing quality, homemade goods, including fudge, jam, lemon cheese and marmalade, brings a unique flair to Keswick Market.

Not only do their delicacies delight customers, but they also embody the spirit of Cumberland's vibrant markets.

Cumberland Council also extended its congratulations to the Keogh Family for the award.
