POLICE have been in Workington monitoring a youth doing payback work.
Young people who are involved in criminal activity are, in some cases, now being asked to do payback work which often involves activity used to benefit the community.
On this occasion, they were taken by police officers to litter pick in Workington town centre.
A Cumbria Police spokesperson said: "As part of Neighbourhood Policing Week Workington NPT has been out in Workington town centre this afternoon conducting community payback work with a youth who had been causing issues for businesses in the area over the past week.
"This youth spent his afternoon litter-picking and tidying up the town."
