National Apprenticeship Week is being celebrated this week in England and Wales (February 5-11), with Cumberland Council Leader Councillor Mark Fryer getting involved in the occasion.
Councillor Fryer met with apprentices working at the Solway View housing site in Workington, a development by housebuilder Persimmon. The development is set to see the erection of over 300 new homes upon completion.
Meeting the apprentices on site, Cumberland Council Leader Councillor Mark Fryer said: "It was fantastic to visit Solway View and meet these young apprentices.
“Both were very impressive, and you could see that they and Persimmon have a clear roadmap for their futures."
National Apprenticeship Week brings together businesses and apprentices across the country to shine a light on the difference that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
Anthony Mansfield, Persimmon managing director for Lancashire and Cumbria said: “It’s great to be able to host Councillor Fryer and showcase the skills apprentices are putting to use on site and the support they receive from our Apprenticeship Managers.
"We’re proud of the relationships we have with colleges here in Cumbria helping young people develop the skills they need to embark upon one of the many fulfilling careers construction has to offer.”
More information about apprenticeships including openings can be found on the Government’s apprenticeships portal.
