An event dedicated to the appreciation of on-call firefighters in Cumbria kicked off earlier this week.
A sizeable gathering at Wigton Fire Station on February 8 allowed Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service to thank the on-call crew for their commitment to the station and community, providing an ‘outstanding’ 93 per cent availability rate.
The achievement would not have been possible without the support of the crew’s families and primary employers, CFRS said, adding that their flexibility and understanding allow the firefighters to be available for their community.
To show the appreciation physically, Brian Steadman, deputy chief fire officer, gave certificates to the firefighters, their employers, and families, and guests were given a tour of the station.
The service is currently still hiring on-call firefighters in stations across Cumbria.
