A GROUP of army veterans from Maryport will sleep on the streets this weekend to highlight the plight of many veterans on the country.
David Gilhespy, Wayne Akehurst and Adrian Kirkbride, who are all ex-servicemen, will take to Netherhall Corner in Maryport this Saturday, March 2 sleeping there overnight as part of a national campaign being run by the Royal British Legion - The Great Tommy Sleep Out.
David said: "We have had a lot of interest at the minute and the funds are starting to roll in which is great.
"All the veterans are going to be coming down to cheer us on, the army cadets will be coming down as well and there is going to be some personnel keeping us supplied with food and hot drinks through the night... it has really taken off.
"We are going to be camping out with lots of military memorabilia just to say, look, this is what could have happened to us and does happen to some people if they haven't got anybody helping them and raise awareness for them."
