TWO west Cumbrian dancers have been given the chance to live out their dream as they head off to showcase Workington to the rest of the world.
Summer Brice, 15, and Owen Fowler, 24, who attend the Theatre Crazy dance school in Workington have been selected to represent the Tycoons at the Dance Worlds in Orlando, Florida from April 26-29.
The pair auditioned in Manchester before being selected for the Tycoons Allstars 'Transonic' international open co-ed elite hip hop team, with much fundraising being done to get them to the Worlds.
Summer said: "I've trained in dance and cheer literally since I was born, as my mum is my teacher at Theatre Crazy.
"It's been an absolute dream to be successful in my audition for the world's team, Tycoons and I'm the youngest on the team (international open elite co-ed hip hop).
"I am nervous but mainly excited to compete at worlds level. I hope to represent and showcase the talent that Workington has and do everyone proud.
"I am so happy I get to share this experience with my Theatre Crazy team mate and life-long friend Owen and I hope everyone is proud of me. I've never travelled this far I've only been on a plane two times before and never to America, so I am happy my mum gets to come with me!"
Owen has said he is 'so happy' to be going and representing his country and also put Workington talent out there at international level.
He said: "I’ve wanted to go to the Dance Worlds since I was younger, it's always been my dream.
"So when I seen a team was doing auditions in Manchester I thought, 'why not just try and see what happens? I’ve got nothing to lose'.
"Couple weeks after I received an email saying I got on the team and I would be competing in Orlando, Florida in April 2024 with Tycoons Allstars 'Transonic' international open co-ed elite hip hop team. I cried with happiness."
Owen said he wanted to say a big thanks to everyone who’s helped both him and Summer with sponsorships and fundraising to get there with it being quite costly, including Holmen Iggesund, Osprey Group, family and friends.
