Two care homes in Workington have raised a collective total of £1,187 for Lymphoma Action from tea party fundraisers.
The homes, East Croft Grange and Clarendon Grange, are two of eight care homes across the country led by Alister Cook, who began fundraising for the charity after receiving a diagnosis of follicular lymphoma in 2023.
Mr Cook, also fondly known as the 'Cheshire Jam Man', commenced fundraising through the sale of homemade jams and preserves.
On April 6, each care home celebrated Mr Cook's 63rd birthday with a tea party for residents and families.
"The tea parties were great fun for our residents and families, and I am so grateful for the support from them and our staff in raising funds for such a great cause," said Mr Cook.
“Our homes held raffles, live entertainment and best cake competitions – the cakes just blew me away!
"I felt very emotional seeing what my staff had done for me.
"The outpouring of care and genuine love was just amazing”.
Lymphoma Action, the sole UK charity for lymphoma, expressed gratitude for the support provided through the tea parties.
"We want to say huge congratulations to Alister, and Brancaster Care Homes for raising such an amazing amount," said Deana Cadden, community and campaigns lead at Lymphoma Action.
"We are so grateful for their support, as it enables us to provide people with the vital information and support they need during their lymphoma diagnosis, treatment and beyond."
Mr Cook, who is now in remission from the cancer, raised more than £3,000 from his birthday fundraisers.
