A WEST Cumbrian mayor has been 'appalled' by 'mindless vandalism' in town centre toilets, after a number of incidents occurred in recent weeks.
Cockermouth Town Council announced last Monday, April 15 that the men's toilets on Main Street in the town would be closed for the rest of the week due to vandalism causing damage.
It is the latest in a spate of vandalism directed at the town centre toilets, with the towns mayor warning that should the vandalism carry on the council may be faced with no choice but to consider closing the Main Street toilets, after having being left 'fed up' paying for unnecessary repairs.
Mayor of Cockermouth, Julie Laidlow said: "It’s appalling. it’s just mindless vandalism. The town council are fed up of having to pay for unnecessary repairs to be done.
"This money could be far better spent elsewhere. We might even have to consider closing the toilets if it continues. Hopefully it won’t come to that."
