A SIXTH public information panel showing Cockermouth's railway history has been installed in the town.
The railways first came to Cockermouth in 1847 but the passenger Station was finally closed in 1966, ending 119 years of railway history.
Some of this history still remains, such as the now Greenway and its bridges. Cockermouth Civic Trust have now installed six public information panels tracing this history. Five were positioned on the viaduct wall on the Greenway in 2022.
The final one has recently been erected on Station Road on the perimeter wall of the West Cumberland Farmers store, close to where the Railway Station once stood.
It focuses on the station itself and also acts as a signpost to the Greenway.
Phil Campbell, Chairman of the Civic Trust, thanked Cumbria Railways Association for their help in designing the panels.
