FAMILY and friends of a much-loved Workington man are now over halfway through their year-long challenge to raise awareness and funds for charity, honouring his life ‘one peak at a time'.
Walk for Lloyd was set up in memory of 18-year-old Lloyd Sutton from High Harrington, Workington following his death from bacterial meningitis on October 21 last year.
Following his death, a group of Lloyd's friends came together to try and raise awareness around meningitis, and funds for charity Meningitis Now, by tackling all the Wainwrights in his memory by the end of 2024.
On Sunday, June 2 the group reached their half way goal with their 107th Wainwright, going on to tackle two more on that day, meaning they have now climbed 109 of the 214 Wainwrights.
In a statement, Walk for Lloyd said: "Well what another great achievement, we finally hit number 107.
"What a good couple of days it has been leading up to this amazing milestone; we would just like to say thank you to everyone that has joined us on our challenge so far this year and has donated towards our amazing cause.
"We hope to see yous all there again next weekend as we celebrate and remember Lloyd's life; a peak at a time."
After a number of fundraising events and donations since starting the epic challenge, the group have now raised £12,000 in five months, an amount the group say is 'truly outstanding'.
