A MAJOR British clothing chain has quashed rumours that it will be coming to Workington - as it says there is 'no plans' to open one of its stores in the town.

Since the announcement of the closure of Dixon's Furniture store, rumours have swirled that major British clothing brand Primark would be taking on the new store unit at Dunmail Park.

This followed talks in 2022 that the company would take over the former Debenhams Unit in the Washington Square Retail Park before the announcement of TK Maxx's occupancy.

However, the major retail company has said that whilst it is always looking for new opportunities, there are no plans to open a new store in Workington any time soon.

A spokesman for Primark said: “As a growing business, we're always looking for new opportunities for store locations, however we have no plans to open a Primark store in Workington.”
