THOUSANDS lined the streets in Maryport over the weekend to attend what is said to have been the biggest carnival in the town for a number of years.

Over 400 people entered the annual Maryport Carnival with Ghostbusters, Crocodile Rockers, Abba and many visiting as well as local carnival queens heading out to the awaiting crowds.

Gary Hampson, Chairman of the Maryport Carnival Committee said: "It was a great success, there was a record amount of entrants for this years events with around 400 entrants.

"It was the largest carnival that the town has seen in a number of years and it went without a hitch, there was a lot of people that were out and about supporting the events, thousands had lined the streets."
