A 25-YEAR-old man with a history of drug misuse tragically died after taking a large number of substances, an inquest heard.

Jordan Nawrockyj was pronounced dead at his grandparents’ home in Cockermouth on the morning of February 23 after paramedics had attempted to save him.

Mr Nawrockyj was described as a ‘happy, good-hearted lad’ who was loved by his family and friends, at an inquest into his death.

He had attended Fairfield Primary School and then Cockermouth School. He was epileptic and had suffered a seizure, which caused him to leave his job.

His mum, Andrea Nawrockyj, said he then ‘fell into the wrong crowd’. His family had recently sought help for him from Unity, an addiction recovery service, Cockermouth Coroners’ Court heard.

On February 22, Mr Nawrockyj had been out for most of the day and then returned to his grandparents’ house at Meadow Grove in Cockermouth at about 9pm.

He told his grandfather, Martin Nawrockyj that he had been playing pool at the Fletcher Christian pub in Cockermouth. He chatted to his grandparents for a while and then went to bed.

Martin Nawrockyj checked on his grandson before going to bed. He then woke at 5.45am and went to check on him again. He discovered that his grandson wasn’t breathing.

Paramedics arrived but were unable to revive him and Mr Nawrockyj was pronounced dead.

The inquest heard that Mr Nawrockyj had a history of drug misuse and had also struggled with anxiety and depression.

A toxicology report revealed a number of substances and some alcohol in Mr Nawrockyj’s blood, including oxycodone in a lethal dose.

The medical cause of death was given as drug intoxication. Robert Cohen, assistant coroner for Cumbria, concluded that Mr Nawrockyj’s death was drug-related.
