164-home development approved for Egremont
Plans for 164 new homes on farmland on the edge of Egremont, put forward by Genesis Homes, were approved on Wednesday (July 17).
Despite local homeowner objections, the planning committee was assured the development would not negatively impact the locale or road safety.
Plans indicate that 10 per cent of the new 164-home estate will be classified as affordable housing.
Urgent treatment centre at Cumberland Infirmary
Outline planning permission is being sought for an urgent treatment centre on the grounds of Cumberland Infirmary.
The proposed development, at Carlisle's Newtown Road hospital, aims to alleviate lengthy waiting times and the high demand that the existing accident and emergency (A&E) department contends with.
Vehicle rental plans at former Car Wash Cafe in Carlisle
A change of use application has been put forward to change the former Car Wash Cafe on Church Street, Carlisle to a vehicle rental centre.
The intention is to use the existing kiosk and its access and exit lane for a vehicle rental drop-off and pick-up centre.
The proposal focuses solely on the existing kiosk and the far lane of the site, leaving the rest of the site to Intelijet - which operates a robotic car wash system.
Battery power storage facility approved north of Carlisle
Members have unanimously approved plans for a battery storage facility in the Carlisle area.
They considered the proposal from Energi Generation at a meeting at the Copeland Centre in Whitehaven on Wednesday (July 17).
Bed and Breakfast submit plans to council
A bed and breakfast near Egremont could be changed to domestic use if the plans are approved by Cumberland Council.
The planning application is for a site at Oxenriggs Farm in Haile and, according to the application form, the house build has been completed on the original plan of the existing bed and breakfast.
Approval for 20 'self-build plots' in Corby Hill
Councillors approved plans for 20 self-build plots for a site in Corby Hill near Carlisle, despite local objections.
The application was for a site on land at Cardunneth, in Langley Gardens, and it was for outline planning permission with exact details to be decided at a later date.
Local resident Ruth Atkinson spoke against the application and said it was overdevelopment which was outside the local village plan.
Carlisle restaurant submits plans to move into new bar space
The Old Bank, on Fisher Street, put forward plans to expand into the Castle Chocolates unit after they announced that they would be moving around September time.
A planning application has been submitted to Cumberland Council to connect the new section with the restaurant.
The new bar space aims to accommodate around 20 to 25 customers.
Wildlife trust given permission to restore ecosystem by the Solway
Plans to restore an area of raised bog ecosystem near Kirkbride were approved by Cumberland Council's planning committee.
The work will create a network of cell bunding to retain water and 're-wet' the surface, blocking drainage ditches and clearing scrub that dries the peat.
