Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team were called out twice on Sunday July 21.

They first attended a medical emergency close to Workington, before assessing an abandoned paddleboard on Crummock Water, which thankfully proved not to be an emergency.

On Facebook, the rescue team wrote:

"Our team was tasked by Belfast Coastguard, alongside Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team and Workington Lifeboat, to respond to a medical emergency approximately one mile off Workington. The casualty was brought to shore by our colleagues at the RNLI, where our CROs continued to provide casualty care and assessment until North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust arrived to take over. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery and hope they're back on the water soon.

"Shortly after returning from the previous callout, we were tasked to Crummock Water where an unattended paddleboard was found on the far side of the lake. With no one in sight and concerned for the paddler's safety, the first informant called 999 and asked the Coastguard for assistance. We were joined by Cumbria Police, Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team and Beep Doctors.

"After arriving at the scene, we welcomed the news seeing that the paddleboarder had returned from a brief walk to continue their journey around the lake. We thank the first informant for not delaying in raising their concerns.

"Whilst not a contributing factor today, we would like to take the opportunity to remind all users of kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards to label their equipment with a name and contact number to expedite searches like these."
