AN award-winning gin will continue to be produced despite its creator entering voluntary liquidation.

Pennington's Spirits, based in Kendal, has acquired Bedrock Gin after Spirits of the Lakes Ltd went into voluntary liquidation on June 10.

Originally founded in 2008 just outside Keswick, Spirits of the Lakes Ltd gained fame with Bedrock Gin, a spirit uniquely made with spring water from the Lake District.

A spokesperson for Pennington's Spirits said: "Having admired Bedrock Gin for over 15 years, Pennington's were delighted to have the opportunity to continue producing the international award-winning range in the Lake District National Park in our distillery on the edge of Kendal.

"We are delighted to be able to offer the opportunity for visitors to come and explore the new home of Bedrock on Friday 2nd August when we will be opening our doors and offering free tours to celebrate National Distillery Day."

Bedrock Gin has made headlines in the past: its Bedrock Gooseberry & Elderflower Gin was named the best in the world in the flavoured gin category at the global Gin Masters contest.
