A WORKINGTON post office has proposed to move locations after the resignation of the postmaster at the current site.
The Post Office has said they are making the bid to move to change locations of the post office at Moorclose in a bid to 'safeguard services' in the local area.
The current postmaster has resigned and the premises at 134 Westfield Drive, Workington, CA14 3RW, would be withdrawn for Post Office use.
A new operator has been appointed, who has identified an alternative location to operate Moorclose Estate Post Office Post Office.
A spokesman from the Post Office said: "Our priority is to safeguard our services in the locality in the longer term and the relocation would enable us to maintain a Post Office service to our customers in the community.
"There would be two serving positions in total; one open plan and a Post Office serving point at the retail counter.
"The opening hours would be: Monday – Friday: 9am – 5.30pm; Saturday: 9am - 1pm; Sunday:11am - 2pm. This would be an extra 3.5 hours a week on a Sunday and with later closing on a Sunday than currently.
"The proposed premises would be approximately 30 metres from the current branch, along level terrain. Parking is available nearby with dedicated disabled parking bays.
"There would be a wide automatic door and level access at the entrance, with space for a wheelchair and a hearing loop provided.
"A similar range of products and services would still be available."
Consultation is now open with the opportunity to give feedback will close on 10 September. Customers can share their views during the consultation online at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 338410.
