THREE men camping have been rescued from a river island after they woke up to find themselves stranded due to high river levels.
The overnight rain in Langstrath Valley resulted in flooding, causing concern for Keswick Mountain Rescue Team (Keswick MRT), Coastguard Helicopter, and Cockermouth MRT, who were alerted by the campers on August 15.
With heavy overnight rain, the Borrowdale Road was cut off due to flooding so the Keswick team had to deploy vehicles over Whinlatter and Honister passes in order to get to Stonethwaite at the bottom of Langstrath.
With team members ready for a potential swift water rescue, the Coastguard helicopter, conducted aerial valley searches.
"Fortunately, the three soaked men were located near Stonethwaite having managed to self-rescue as the water level had receded," a spokesperson from Keswick MRT said.
The operation involved 12 team members for over 3 hours.
