As petrol prices have fallen to a six-month low, we’ve put together a list showing how much a litre of petrol/diesel costs in garages in West Cumbria.

It comes as the AA revealed the average price for a litre of petrol in the UK this week - £143p, which hasn’t been seen since mid-February.

Diesel dropped to an average of 147.9p, a rate last seen in January.

However, the AA cautioned that these reductions offer 'little cause for celebration', noting that the highest pre-Covid petrol price was 142.5p in April 2012.

The AA also warned of potential impacts on workers earning the national living wage who drive long distances.

If the 5p-per-litre fuel duty cut introduced in March 2022 is scrapped, it could erase 5.9 per cent of the wage gains for those who fill up weekly.

The fuel duty cut, effectively saving 6p per litre with VAT, is only guaranteed until March 2025.

Luke Bosdet, the AA's fuel price spokesperson, said: "This summer, UK drivers have had little to celebrate at the pumps.

“While petrol prices are well below the July 2022 record of 191.53p per litre, they remain persistently and historically high, putting a strain on consumers' finances.

"For low-paid workers, who recently saw a living wage increase of nearly £2 per hour amid the cost-of-living crisis, the prospect of paying an additional 6p per litre for fuel will feel like a significant pay cut."
