A MUCH-loved village show saw hundreds gather in Greysouthen late last month to celebrate their community and have a whole host of family fun.
The Greysouthen Village Show took place in the west Cumbrian village on Saturday, August 31 with hundreds turning out to take part in the annual celebration.
The show was opened by West Cumbrian marathon man Gary McKee due to the committee donating a proportion of their profits to Hospice at Home West Cumbria.
Joint events coordinator Hannah Gate said: “The day was a traditional village show mixed with a family fun day. This year we held it all up on the local playing field, kindly allowed by Greysouthen Parish Council.
"We had an industrial tent with classes for the full village to enter from children’s craft, to baking, flowers and the ever-popular men’s section.
“We then had a number of activities for children to enjoy from field games, hook a duck, ride on tractors and inflatables.
"Not only that we had our famous human fruit machine up and running which always gets a laugh.
“While the little ones played there was plenty for the adults to see from local trade stall including LS Design, Love at First Bite by Amber, Heart of Eden Crafts, Greysouthen Young Farmers and much much more."
Greysouthen Young Farmers got families involved in the tug of war competition, there was a falconry display by Fell Falconry and live music throughout the day from Jackson Jane and Harry Bibby.
Once families had been around the field they could then refresh at the bar and BBQ before heading over to buy raffle tickets for the famous raffle.
Around 600 people turned out with ‘a fantastic community atmosphere and everyone got to enjoy a traditional village afternoon where there was plenty of fun and laughter’.
The committee have thanked the many people who came together to make the day a great success, Hannah said: “This fantastic afternoon was completely volunteer ran with sponsorship from wonderful businesses such as Field 2 Fire Cumbria, Greysouthen Grasshoppers Playgroup, POD Signs & Graphics and NFU Cockermouth & Penrith.”
Planning has already started for the event next year, with anyone encouraged to get in touch if you would like to be involved through the Facebook Page GreysouthenOnline.
