A fundraiser has been set up in memory of a young man who died after a road incident earlier this month.

Daniel Sowerby, 26, died on Wednesday September 11 after an incident involving a tractor at Newlands Farm, Ireby.

Mr Sowerby grew up in Bassenthwaite village but more recently lived in Thursby.

He was a 'much-loved' son, brother and partner according to his family.

In a statement, Mr Sowerby's family said: "Anyone who knew Dan would say he was a cheeky chappy but also a true gentleman.

"He was loving, hardworking and just an all-round delight to be around. His infectious laugh and smile would light up any room.

"He was one of the kindest souls you would ever meet.

"We speak for everyone when we say he will be well and truly missed, we all love you forever Dan."

His sister Jordan Sowerby said: “As many of you know, Dan was involved in an accident at work and sadly lost his life.

“Nothing in this world can prepare you for when you lose a loved one.

“Our world has been completely and utterly shattered into a million pieces.

“Dan was a true gentleman, one of the kindest souls you would ever meet, he didn’t have a bad bone in his body, always putting other first and making sure everyone was ok before himself.

“As Dan’s little sister, I feel like it’s only right we give him the send-off he deserves, so I’m turning to you guys to help me in giving Dan the funeral he very much deserves.

“He was just the best of the best was our Dan.”

At the time of reporting, £3,300 has been raised, exceeding the target of £1,500, as over 80 people have donated, some as much as £200.
