A Lake District cheese deli is continuing to attract curious customers through its unique flavours of ice cream.

Ahead of the summer, the News & Star spoke with Keswick Cheese Deli owner Hayley Peacock about her famous flavours of ice cream, which have been causing a stir in Cumbria.

Both offerings of manchego and quince, and white stilton with ginger and mango have proven popular throughout the summer, which has led Hayley to create a new flavour, which has a little bit of Christmas to it.

She said: "Our latest one is Lancashire Bowland. This is a delicious Lancashire cheese, that’s blended with apples and raisins, then dusted with cinnamon. This cheese is very much a fruit cake blended into a cheese. Something that is a bit of a Marmite concept for some. We often describe it as having Christmas flavours and aromas, within a super tasty Lancashire cheese."

She added: "Some of our customers have returned time and time again to get another blast of our cheese ice cream, which has caused quite a stir since we started making it here in the deli last year. They are often very excited that a new flavour has been created and are very willing to give it a go.

"With new customers, it’s wonderful to see the look of complete shock at the concept, quickly change into one of complete satisfaction."

Although the warmer months are perhaps now behind us, the cold and rainy weather never truly leaves Cumbria, and Hayley hopes that her interesting flavours of ice cream will continue to be a hit in the autumn and winter months.

She concluded: "We’re likely to be making our Keswick Cheese Ice Cream well into October, but if the demand is still there, then we’ll continue into November. Ice cream is a great treat all year round in my books!"
