A MOTORIST who overtook a vehicle in a hidden dip on a road has admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Civan Cakmak, 18, entered a guilty plea to the offence when he appeared before Workington Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting, told the court that the defendant had done ‘a highly dangerous’ manoeuvre by overtaking a vehicle in a hidden dip on the A596 in Aspatria on May 30 last year.

He had crossed over double white lines and struck a vehicle driving in the opposite direction. The female driver of the vehicle sustained a serious injury to her leg.

Ms Fee said the case was not suitable for sentence in the magistrates court.

Kash Khan, defending, said Cakmak was of previous good character. He invited magistrates to send the case to the crown court for sentence.

Cakmak, of Short Acres, Maryport, will be sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court on October 21. An interim driving disqualification was imposed.
