A mountain rescue team launched a large-scale rescue at the weekend to find a missing pensioner who had not returned from her walk. 

Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team were contacted by Cumbria Police at around 11pm on Sunday (September 22) after the 79-year-old was reported missing.

Four search teams were quickly dispatched along with a drone team and two dogs from Lake District Mountain Rescue Search Dogs.

The call-out came after the volunteers had been out on crag training all day.

A spokesperson for Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team said: "On Sunday evening at 11:10pm we were called by Cumbria Police to search for a missing 79-year-old woman who had not returned from a walk.

"Four search teams and a drone team were deployed, along with two dogs from Lake District Mountain Rescue Search Dogs.

The crag training exercise from earlier in the day (Image: Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team) "The casualty was located at around 1:50am in the morning with a broken wrist. She was then taken to a North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust ambulance.

"A busy weekend, but a very good outcome, and we wish the casualty a speedy recovery."

The call-out was the second that weekend after the team was called, alongside Wasdale MRT, to a missing runner on Saturday (September 21). 

Luckily, the runner was found whilst the team was en route.
