Traffic is slow on the M6 due to an abnormal load straddling two lanes.

It's currently affecting the motorway between J40 A66 (Penrith) and J42 A6 (Carlisle South).

The abnormal load is straddling lanes one and two, with drivers passing in lane three.

It's heading towards the A74(M) in Scotland and its final destination is the Moffat Substation in Dumfriesshire.

The abnormal load is a huge electricity transformer, which weighs 186 tonnes, being moved by SP Energy from the port at Heysham in Lancashire, travelling at 12mph.

The operation started yesterday at 9am (September 28) and is expected to last until 3pm today (September 29).
