A DAY of remembrance for all UK police officers is being held today.

National Police Memorial Day honours over 5,000 police officers who have been killed or died on duty in the past 180 years.

The day serves as a formal recognition to officers who have given their all to protect others and to make their communities safer places to live and work.

The Police Remembrance Trust operates throughout the UK under a Royal Charter granted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2018.

The charity exists to ensure all those who lost their lives in the line of duty are never forgotten.

A Cumbria police spokesperson said: “We remember our own officers who have lost their lives, and our thoughts are with their families and friends.

“Their courage dedication and sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
