Mountain rescuers were deployed for five hours because a walker’s dog got stuck on a ledge.

The walker and her two dogs were descending from the summit of Eagle Crag when one of the dogs, a collie, somehow managed to get stuck on a ledge.

A spokesperson from Keswick Mountain Rescue Team said: “The owner tried in vain to get to the dog but considered it too risky and called for assistance.”

The team was called out at 5.17pm on October 3.

They added: “Once at the scene, two team members scrambled up to the dog while others made their way to the top of the crag and set up a rope system.

“The dog was secured, lowered to the base of the crag in an animal rescue sack and happily returned to its owner.”
