A WEST Cumbrian Chamber of Trade has welcomed the recommendation of a new banking hub in its town.

LINK, the UK’s cash access and ATM network, announced on  October 2 that locals and businesses in Cockermouth will soon find it easier to access banking services thanks to a recommendation for a new banking hub in the town.

While the town had not previously met the criteria for a banking hub, a recent Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) rule change led to a reassessment by LINK and the confirmation that a hub will now be provided.

A spokesman for Cockermouth & District Chamber of Trade said: “We are incredibly pleased that a recommendation has been made for Cockermouth to become the location for a new banking hub.

"We have been lobbying politicians and the relevant authorities for many months to stress the importance of a high street banking presence for the town’s residents, and our businesses.

"Not only do banks provide a practical service for everyone, they are a valuable point of contact.

"Our business owners know the importance of face to face customer service – and it’s something Cockermouth prides itself on. Using a bank is no different.

"We hope this hub can be set up as quickly as possible so there is no gap in provision here."
