A FORMER B&B and tearoom in a north Cumbrian seaside village can be used as a residential property following a decision by Cumberland council.

Plans were lodged back in August for the 'change of use from B&B, tea rooms and gift shop to a dwelling' at Brookside, Allonby.

Information supporting the application said: "The property has previously been run as a B&B on the first floor and tea room/gift shop on the ground floor. However the tea room/gift shop along with the B&B ceased trading over five years ago.

"Allonby has other tea rooms and gift shops and the closing of my business did not have any adverse effect on the village."

After the B&B, tea room and gift shop stopped trading, the applicant began using the property as his permanent home.

The planning application was granted subject to conditions by Cumberland council officers on Friday, September 27.
