A WEST CUMBRIAN primary school has been 'delighted' to have received a 'Good' Ofsted rating from the education watchdog.
Netherton Infants School, on Rydal Avenue in Maryport was inspected by the education watchdog Ofsted in July, with the report being published in September to say the school had been found to be 'Good' by inspectors.
The inspectors said that the 'many happy faces' of pupils who attend the 'small friendly' school made clear to the inspectors that children were happy to attend the school.
A report said: "The school expects pupils to do well so that they are ready for junior school when the time comes. Pupils work hard and try their best in lessons. They listen carefully to teachers and show perseverance when they learn new skills.
"Pupils, including pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), typically achieve well in a range of subjects"
The inspection also found that reading was very much at the centre of the school's curriculum, with many of the pupils being introduced to books from a young age and growing a love of reading throughout their time at the school.
As well as inspectors finding that children were having a positive experience in their curriculum at school, they also commented on the way the school helps students to prepare for 'life beyond school'.
The report said: "The school provides pupils with exciting opportunities to contribute to their community. For example, pupils in Year 2 learned how to run their own business when they sold wristbands reminding people of the rules for water safety.
"These rich and varied experiences help to prepare pupils for life beyond school."
Staff and students at the school have been left delighted with the inspectors recognising all of the hard work from a close knit team at the school.
Head teacher, Mrs L Millington said: “We are delighted that Ofsted have recognised that we continue to be a good school. They praised and acknowledged how happy and eager children are to come to our small friendly school.
"School provides not only a broad, ambitious, exciting curriculum but also a varied programme of activities beyond that of their academic learning. This is a team effort resulting from the hard work and commitment from staff, governors, children & parents.”
