A forum on the current and future achievements of the global robotics industry was held in Cumbria earlier this week.

Held at robotics manufacturer and engineering contractor Createc’s new Cockermouth facility, Cumbria Chamber of Commerce’s Directors Forum witnessed a presentation led by Etienne Hocquard, the company’s head of robotics, on some projects they’re undertaking.

Mr Hocquard also showed the sensors Createc designed which are used for crowd monitoring in busy areas such as large railway stations.

His talk ‘emphasised the safety and efficiency gains of using robotics, maximising productivity and taking humans out of harm’s way where necessary’ according to the Chamber.

Guests were given a tour of the facility, showcasing a range of specialist equipment, including radiation-sensing cameras and robotic arms used for sorting nuclear waste.

The group also observed a demonstration of Createc's Boston Dynamics Spot robot and had the opportunity to operate the robot.

Discussions followed on Createc’s spinout companies arising from research and development projects, the application of robotics in sectors such as healthcare and social care, and the future of the robotics industry.
